How much can a Model Y robotaxi earn per month?
A robotaxi’s month in the estimator’s base case, line by line, plus what changes the number and what Tesla hasn’t published yet.
By Fleetsly · Updated
In the estimator’s base case, one robotaxi makes about $549.70 a month after every cost, including depreciation. That number swings a lot with fares, the platform’s fee and how many miles the car is paid for. Tesla hasn’t published a revenue split for owner cars yet, so treat this as a model to test, not a promise.
One month, line by line
| Line | Per month |
|---|---|
| Fares | $3,437.50 |
| Platform fee | −$1,031.25 |
| Charging | −$214.29 |
| Maintenance | −$196.43 |
| Cleaning | −$412.50 |
| Insurance | −$333.33 |
| Parking | −$200.00 |
| Depreciation | −$500.00 |
| Profit | $549.70 |
Assumptions: 100 paid miles a day at $1.25 a mile, a 30% platform fee, 330 operating days a year, and a $30,000 car over 5 years. Change any of them in the earnings estimator.
Before depreciation
Without depreciation, the car brings in about $1,049.70 a month. That is the cash a month of driving leaves after running costs, but the car is losing value at the same time, so it isn’t all profit.
What moves the monthly number
- Paid miles: about 6 idle days cost as much in net fares as a whole month’s profit.
- Fare per mile and the platform fee, which the network sets.
- Cleaning and charging, which you control at the depot.
