Robotaxi maintenance checklist
A daily, weekly and by-the-mile checklist for robotaxi fleets, with Tesla’s published service intervals for Model 3 and Model Y.
By Fleetsly · Updated
A robotaxi can drive a year’s worth of miles in a few months, and no driver is there to notice a soft tire or a dirty camera. That makes maintenance a schedule you run, not something you react to. This checklist splits the work into what happens every day, every week and by the mile.
Every day: the walk-round
Do it before the morning rush, on every car, and take a photo of anything you find.
- Tires: pressure warning, visible damage, uneven wear.
- Glass: chips and cracks in the windshield and windows.
- Cameras and sensors: clean lenses, nothing blocking them.
- Lights: headlights, brake lights and indicators.
- Interior: spills, trash, lost items and damage left by the last riders.
- Charge port: clean, latch working.
- Warnings: any alert on the car or in the app.
Decide in advance what is critical. A tire, glass, lights or a sensor problem should take the car out of service until it is fixed. A stain or a scuff can wait for the next cleaning.
Every week
- Tread depth on all four tires, so you rotate before the wear gets uneven.
- Wiper blades and washer fluid.
- A deeper interior clean: seats, floor mats and touch points.
- Any service that is coming due in the next week, so you can book it at a quiet hour.
By the mile and by the year: Tesla’s intervals
For Model 3 and Model Y, Tesla publishes these intervals. Robotaxis reach the mileage-based ones much faster than private cars, so schedule by miles or by time, whichever comes first.
| Item | Interval |
|---|---|
| Tire rotation | Every 6,250 miles, or sooner if tread depth differs by 2/32 in or more |
| Cabin air filter | Every 2 years |
| HEPA and carbon filters (if equipped) | Every 3 years |
| Brake fluid | Check every 4 years, replace if needed |
| Brake calipers | Clean and lubricate every year or 12,500 miles where roads are salted in winter |
| Wiper blades | Replace every year |
Intervals can differ by market and software version. Check the car’s own maintenance screen or Tesla’s owner’s manual for each model you run. Tesla has not published a schedule for the Cybercab yet.
After every repair
Close the loop: record what was done, by which vendor, what it cost and how long the car was off the road. That history shows which cars cost the most to keep, and it is the proof owners and insurers ask for. Downtime is a cost too: our guide How much does a Tesla robotaxi earn? shows how quickly lost paid miles eat into profit.
Put the checklist on rails
On paper, this checklist depends on someone remembering it every morning. In fleet software, the daily inspection is a phone checklist with photos, service programs track miles and dates per car, and a rule can take a car out of service the moment a critical defect is logged.
