How much does a robotaxi ride cost?
What riders pay for Tesla Robotaxi, Waymo and ride-hailing rides, how prices are moving, and what fare per mile means for an owner’s earnings.

Robotaxi prices are still settling, and most public numbers come from ride-hail data firms rather than official rate cards. The best data so far is from San Francisco, where Tesla, Waymo, Uber and Lyft all operate. These are the averages reported as of October 2026.
| Service | Average ride | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Robotaxi (with a safety driver) | $8.17 | Nov 2025 to Jan 2026 |
| Waymo | $19.69 | Nov 2025 to Jan 2026 |
| Uber | $17.47 | Nov 2025 to Jan 2026 |
Prices are moving. In Obi’s March to April 2026 data, Tesla’s average had risen 41% and Waymo’s 18%, with Tesla still roughly half the price of a Waymo ride. Riders also waited longer for a Tesla.
Why rides can be cheaper without a driver
The driver is the biggest cost in a ride-hailing trip. Analysts expect robotaxi costs per mile to fall well below human-driven rides as fleets scale, though nobody has published audited per-mile costs yet. Long-term targets quoted by companies are targets, not measured results.
What fare per mile means for an owner
For a fleet owner, the rider’s price becomes revenue per paid mile, minus the platform’s fee. The estimator’s base case assumes $1.25 per paid mile and a 30% fee. Low launch prices help a network grow, but they push an owner’s margin toward zero. Try different fares in the earnings estimator, and read How much does a Tesla robotaxi earn? for the full breakdown.
