Tesla Robotaxi cities: where it runs in 2026
Where Tesla’s Robotaxi service runs, with and without a safety driver, which cities were announced next, and what it means if you plan a fleet.
By Fleetsly · Updated
Tesla’s Robotaxi service has spread from Austin to several Texas and Florida cities in 2026. This is where it runs as of October 2026, based on Tesla’s own updates and reporting. Status changes quickly, so check the sources before you make plans around a city.
| City | Status |
|---|---|
| Austin, TX | Driverless rides; the first city, with the service area expanded several times |
| Dallas, TX | Driverless rides since April 2026 |
| Houston, TX | Driverless rides since April 2026 |
| Miami, Orlando and Tampa, FL | Driverless Model Y rides reported in Tesla’s Q2 2026 update |
| San Francisco Bay Area, CA | Ride-hailing with a safety driver; no driverless permit in California |
| Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV | Announced; launch not confirmed by Tesla |
Driverless or with a safety driver?
“Robotaxi” covers two different services. In the Texas cities, Tesla describes the rides as unsupervised: no one in the driver’s seat. In the Bay Area, rides run with a safety driver under a ride-hailing permit, because California hadn’t given Tesla a permit for driverless public rides.
What the city list means for fleet owners
- A car only earns where a network runs paid rides. A city with paid driverless rides is a candidate; an announced city is a plan.
- Fares and demand differ by city, and so does the cost of a depot. Compare metros in our robotaxi market rankings.
- Owners can’t add their own cars to Tesla’s network yet. See Can you add your Tesla to the Robotaxi network?
